Toyota Tacoma X-Runner Concept

A brainstorming session involving Toyota's Engineering teams at Toyota R&D and the design team at Toyota's renowned Calty Design Studio in Ann Arbor, Michigan, led to a departure from the off-road theme at the 2023 SEMA Show.

When it came to styling, the team made a point to maintain the Tacoma's design language, including the use of interlocking shapes and fluid forms central to its "chiseled liquid" DNA.

In order to achieve an optimal street-ready appearance and showcase the versatility of the TGNA-F platform, the team procured a Tundra air-suspension system to achieve the lowest possible ride height while maintaining load-carrying capacity.

In the past, 2WD street or 'sport' trucks became a common sight on roads, characterized by their lowered stance and high-speed modifications. These vehicles were cherished by enthusiasts who prioritized speed between traffic lights over their utility for worksites, campsites, or off-road adventures

The Tundra's solid axle, featuring a 4.30:1 final drive and an electronic locking differential, distributes torque to the rear wheels. Additionally, a specially designed side exhaust system exits just below the rocker panel.

To support the chassis modifications and engine, the overall track width was increased by just over 3 inches and the frame was strengthened.

The X-Runner Concept boasts a customized i-FORCE 3.4-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that generates an impressive 421 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of peak torque.

The concept's aggressive front fascia is completed with Tacoma XB LED Projector headlights with "X-Runner" laser ablation lenses.

Tthe wheel wells were filled with Lacks Enterprises®, one-off, 21×9.5-inch carbon fiber wheels with forged aluminum centers on Michelin 285/45R21 Sport Tires.

Inside, the X-Runner retains its Tacoma feel while blending seamlessly into its reimagined, performance aesthetic by featuring paddle shifters, and custom X-Runner accents.
