The Yamaha R3 was re-launched in India at INR 0.465 million (ex-showroom) alongside the MT-03 street naked. This generation has been on sale in the international markets for over three years.
This time, the R3 comes to India as a CBU import from Indonesia. The previous generation was a CKD import. Therefore, it was priced relatively lower.
Key highlights of the redesigned front fairing are new YZF-R1-inspired dual LED headlamps and position lights. The LCD instrument panel is new as well.
The bike rides on 10-spoke cast aluminium wheels, with a 298mm front brake disc with a floating twin-piston calliper.
The updated R3 features all-new 37mm KYB inverted front forks and a monocross rear shock with preload adjustment.
An all-new triple clamp that incorporates the aluminium handlebar crown gets R-series-inspired styling.
Improved ergonomics and rider comfort come in the form of a redesigned 14-litre fuel tank, which features a new cover design, and a handlebar positioned 22mm lower than before.
The new R3 continues to be powered by the same 321cc, twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC engine as the previous R3. It develops 41.4bhp @ 10,750rpm and 29.5Nm @ 9,000rpm.
At 169kg (wet weight), the R3 is not a very heavy bike and offers 160mm of ground clearance.
A relatively low 780mm seat height and approximately 50/50 front-to-rear weight distribution should help with agile and responsive handling.
