With a coefficient of drag of just 0.20, the EQS also became the most aerodynamic production car in the world.
The EQS 580 4MATIC also marked the debut of the MBUX Hyperscreen – a large, curved screen unit that stretches nearly from A-pillar to A-pillar. Three screens sit under a cover glass and appear to merge into one.
The EQS claims a WLTP-certified range of up to 780km. Capable of supporting fast charging, a range of up to 300km can be obtained in just 15 minutes of charge, using a 500A DC fast charging station.
The EQS is produced at Factory 56 in Sindelfingen. It is touted as one of Mercedes-Benz's most modern and efficient production facilities.
About 80kg of components used in the EQS are manufactured from recycled and renewable raw materials. These include, for example, the cable ducts, floor coverings, and aluminium used on the inner side of the bonnet.
The EV debuted with two variants, the 328bhp EQS 450+ and the 516bhp EQS 580 4MATIC.
The LED High-Performance headlamps connected by a light band and the ‘Black Panel’ front grille form the EQS’ distinctive face. Mercedes DIGITAL LIGHT is available as an optional extra.
The EQS is the first Mercedes to offer the option of activating several new vehicle functions via over-the-air updates (OTA).
