Mazda returns to the seven-seater SUV market after a six-year absence with the CX-80, its all-new flagship SUV for Europe.
Following the CX-60, the CX-80 is Mazda’s latest product based on the Large Product Group platform, which also underpins the North American models, the CX-70 and CX-90 SUVs.
4,995mm long, 1,890mm wide, and 1,710mm tall, the CX-80 is about the same size as the Volvo XC90 and Hyundai Santa Fe and is the largest car Mazda has launched in Europe. Compared with the CX-60, its wheelbase is 250mm longer, and the rear roofline is 24mm taller.
It will go on sale in the UK in five model grades with a choice of a PHEV petrol or six-cylinder diesel engine.
The CX-80 offers a choice of three middle-row configurations: a three-person bench seat, two captain’s seats with a walk-through space or two captain’s seats with a fixed centre console. The seven-seat layout with the middle-row bench will be standard, and the latter two will be optional.
The CX-80 also introduces two new Mazda paint colours to the UK market: Artisan Red and Melting Copper.
A feature highlight of the CX-80 includes Alexa in-car voice control for music, air-conditioning, navigation, and third-party apps.
Both engines send power to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox, with a bias towards the rear.
Full pricing and UK specifications of the Mazda CX-80 will be announced later, but prices will start from £48,920.
