Hyundai unveiled the Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup car at the official practice round for participating teams in the upcoming Hyundai N Festival motorsports event.
Based on the Ioniq 5 N EV, the Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup car features slick tyres, a redesigned body kit, various lightweighting measures, bolstered safety and other circuit-centric enhancements.
The redesigned body kit consists of low and wide-style over-fenders, wider wheel trajectories for improved handling, increased downforce from front lips and rear wings, and improved aerodynamic performance.
It has been made lighter by removing unnecessary components and using 18-inch forged wheels, FRP hood and polycarbonate windows. Thanks to these measures, it tips the scales at 1,970kg.
The Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup car utilises the same power electronics (PE) system as the production-spec Ioniq 5 N: a 166kW front motor, a 282kW rear motor, and an 84.0kWh battery pack that helps develop close to 650PS.
For enhanced safety measures, the Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup car is equipped with a roll cage, racing bucket seats and seat belts. Additional safety measures, including fire extinguishers exclusively for electric fires, asphyxiation fire extinguishers and modified charge port location have also been added.
The upcoming season will serve as a trial period for EV racing, marking the debut of EV racing in the Hyundai N Festival. Similar to the existing Avante (Elantra) N1 class, the eN1 class is exclusively for professional athletes. The ‘e’ in eN1 refers to the electrification of the race class.
