Zac Hollis, Asia Head at VinFas

Former Skoda Auto India’s brand director, Zac Hollis, has taken on a pivotal role as Asia Head at VinFast, a leading Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) company. The move comes amid VinFast’s ambitious USD 2 billion rollout plan for its India operations.

Hollis left a lasting impact during his tenure in Skoda India, enhancing brand engagement through active connections with car enthusiasts and owners on various social media platforms. His two and a half decades of automotive industry experience, spanning Europe and Asia, includes a significant stint leading China sales for Skoda Auto from 2016 to 2018.

VinFast’s strategic move

Hollis’s move to VinFast comes just four months after joining MG Motor as its Prestige Models Operation Director. As VinFast’s Asia Head, he is set to play a critical role in shaping the brand’s USD 2 billion investment strategy in India. This strategic shift aligns with VinFast’s vision for global expansion and entry into India, the world’s third-largest car market.

VinFast’s India entry strategy

VinFast’s entry into India involves a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the State Government of Tamil Nadu, where the company plans to invest USD 2 billion. Hollis’s expertise will be instrumental in executing VinFast’s comprehensive India strategy, including talent acquisition for its India operations.

The integrated electric vehicle facility, situated in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, is expected to generate 3,000 to 3,500 employment opportunities locally. With an annual manufacturing capacity of up to 150,000 units, the facility aims to become a regional EV production hub. Construction is anticipated to commence this year.

Investment breakdown

Out of the total USD 2 billion investment, USD 500 million (approximately Rs 4,155 crore) has been committed for the initial five years of the project. VinFast’s foray into India signifies a strategic move to tap into the rapidly expanding EV market in the country, aligning with its global expansion strategy. The investment underscores VinFast’s commitment to establishing a robust presence in key markets and strengthening its global supply chain.

Hollis’s role in India’s EV landscape

While attempts to reach Zac Hollis for comments were unsuccessful, his role at VinFast is anticipated to extend beyond overseeing India’s market entry. Industry insiders suggest that Hollis will play a crucial part in attracting key talent for VinFast India, contributing to the company’s successful integration into the Indian automotive landscape.

VinFast’s move to bring Zac Hollis on board reflects its strategic approach to tap into the immense growth opportunities in India, a nation with a burgeoning population and a rapidly expanding EV market. The company’s commitment to establishing a significant presence in key markets is poised to reshape the dynamics of the Indian EV sector under Hollis’s leadership. As construction for the facility begins, VinFast’s trajectory in India will undoubtedly be closely watched by industry observers and car enthusiasts alike.
