Amid the growing popularity of its electric range — which includes the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge — Volvo has discontinued the XC40 petrol. In addition, Volvo has also extended the gap between the XC40 Recharge and the C40 Recharge by announcing a price hike for the C40 Recharge.
Since the launch of the XC40 Recharge, it has received a commendable response in the Indian market. In addition to its impressive practicality, the small premium over its ICE sibling and the Volvo brand value helped it sail through the competition. As a result, while Volvo hasn’t commented about the same, the better response for the XC40 Recharge marked the end of the road for the ICE-powered XC40. The Volvo XC40 petrol offered a 2.0L turbo petrol engine mated to an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
Following the price revision, the C40 Recharge now retails at INR 62.95 lakh, making it more expensive by INR 1.7 lakh over the earlier launch price. The revised price increases the gap between the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge to INR 6.05 lakh ex-showroom. For the extra price, the C40 Recharge offers a coupe-esque body style and more range over the XC40 Recharge.
Contrary to the price hike of the C40 Recharge, Volvo is offering a price discount of INR 1.7 lakh for the XC40 Recharge customers under the festive delight program. The festival discount also includes 3 years of complimentary service and warranty. The festive offer doesn’t apply to the relatively new C40 Recharge, further pronouncing the price gap between the two electric offerings from Volvo.
Volvo launched the C40 Recharge back in September 2023 and since its booking commencement, the SUV has managed to garner 100+ orders in the Indian market. The deliveries of the C40 Recharge are already underway.
Speaking of its specifications, the C40 Recharge comes with a 78kWh battery pack that’s good for a WLTP-certified range of 530km. The battery powers two electric motors — mounted at each axle — offering 408PS of power and 660Nm of torque. On the other hand, the XC40 Recharge offers a similar battery capacity and performance, albeit a slightly lower range of 418km.
Speaking of the rivals, the XC40 Recharge rivals other electric SUVs like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and BMW iX1 whereas the C40 Recharge rivals SUVs like the Kia EV6 GT.
