Volvo Trucks has taken a significant step in its global expansion of electric trucks by introducing its heavy-battery electric trucks in Malaysia. Marking a milestone, Volvo Trucks is the first manufacturer to offer zero exhaust emission trucks in Malaysia, aligning with the country’s commitment to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Swift Haulage Berhad, a prominent logistics company, has already embraced this eco-friendly solution by purchasing two Volvo FM Electric trucks.
Anthony O’Connell, Managing Director for Volvo Trucks in Malaysia, emphasized the company’s contribution to lowering the transport sector’s CO2 emissions and enhancing road safety. Swift Haulage Berhad’s CEO, Loo Yong Hui, expressed his pride in being the pioneer adopter of electric trucks in Malaysia, underlining the importance of sustainability and their commitment to transitioning the majority of their fleet to EVs by 2030.
Having pioneered heavy-duty electric trucks since 2019, Volvo Trucks boasts a diverse lineup of six electric heavy trucks, with three models initially available in Malaysia. With a vision to achieve 50% of global new truck sales to be electric by 2030, Volvo Trucks has already sold approximately 5,000 electric trucks in nearly 40 countries across the world. Their electric truck range has found success across regions including Europe, North America, Asia, Latin America, and Africa.
