First Volvo with illuminated logo
The new EM90 carries the corporate design language of the latest all-electric Volvos, including the EM30 hatchback and EX90 SUV. The new EM90 features the signature “Thor Hammer” headlights in their latest iteration with the welcome gesture. The EM90 also boasts an illuminated grille and logo, the latter being the first for any Volvo. Around the side, the EM90 — like every other premium MPV — offers electronically sliding doors for easy ingress and egress. At the rear, the EM90 showcases the updated vertical tail lights extending upwards and downwards.
Scandinavian living room
Volvo claims to offer an experience no less than a Scandinavian living room, thanks to its expansive legroom and premium interior finish. Specced with a 6-seat configuration as standard, the EM90 offers “zero-gravity cushion” seats, offering optimal comfort and support. Other highlighting features of its interior include a large panoramic sunroof, a 21-speaker Bowers & Wilkins 3D sound system, heated, ventilated and massaging second-row seats; retractable tables and cup holders and a roof-mounted entertainment screen.
Apart from the features, Volvo has also focused on various details in sync with the culture of its origin. For instance, the seat upholstery patterns are inspired by mountain ranges in the mist, while the back-lit wood panels reflect the beauty of rays of light shining through a bamboo forest. Furthermore, Volvo has also used Orrefors crystal for the gear selector and back-lit birch wood deco panels on the dashboard, doors and the back of the front row seats.
Single electric motor
Unlike the other electric offerings from Volvo, the EM90 comes with a single electric motor, placed on the rear axle. The motor is good for 268PS of power and a 0-100kmph acceleration time of 8.3 seconds. Speaking of its battery, the EM90 packs a 116kWh battery that’s good for a certified range of 738 kilometres under the CLTC testing cycle.
As per Volvo, the EM90 can juice up its battery from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes via a DC fast charger, the capacity of which is undisclosed at this time. Furthermore, the EM90 also offers bi-directional charging, which enables it to work as a power bank on wheels and power multiple appliances.
