Vitesco Targets Indian EV Market with 48V System

Vitesco Technologies, a leading global supplier of advanced powertrain solutions for electric mobility, is strategically venturing into India’s burgeoning electric two-wheeler market. Displaying its commitment to vehicle electrification, the company has unveiled its cutting-edge offerings, including a demo of its 48-volt system tailored for electric light motorcycles and scooters. This initiative aligns with Vitesco’s global emphasis on scalable electrified platforms.

48-Volt System for Two-Wheelers

Vitesco’s innovative 48-volt system, designed for small e-two-wheelers, holds significance in the everyday mobility landscape of Asian countries. This system, boasting 3 to 7 kW output (equivalent to up to 150cc combustion engines), is showcased for the first time in India. Its controlled integration is achieved through the Electric Drive Control Unit (eDCU), combining inverter functionality with vehicle features. The compact, high-power density permanent magnet e-motor, integrated with a unique inductive rotor position sensor (iRPS), forms a versatile drive unit.

Forward-Thinking Vision

Klaus Hau, Executive Board Member of Vitesco Technologies, underscores the company’s pioneering approach to electrification. He emphasizes the evolution of India’s automotive sector and the importance of adapting to the e-mobility revolution. With over 15 years of electrification experience and a comprehensive portfolio of components, Vitesco aims to achieve remarkable growth in electrification technologies.

Localized Solutions

Anurag Garg, Managing Director & Country Head of Vitesco Technologies India, highlights the unveiling of the concept scooter as a platform to explore new-generation EV visions and establish benchmarks for e-mobility projects. Vitesco’s decade-long global investment in e-innovations culminates in cutting-edge solutions for India’s two-wheeler and powersports segments.

48-Volt System Advancements

The 48-volt system, tailored for compact two-wheelers, is primed for Asian mobility. Employing an eDCU, this system not only manages inverter operations but also incorporates vehicle functions and swappable battery management. Ensuring compatibility across diverse battery interfaces, it enhances battery management with a compact and lightweight design.

High-Performance EMR3 Axle Drive

Vitesco also introduces the EMR3 electric axle drive, proven in the passenger car market, as an optimal solution for high-performance three- and four-wheelers. Boasting up to 150 kW power and 2,900 Nm torque, this integrated unit comprises a synchronous motor, power electronics, and reduction gear. The EMR3 finds applications in powersports vehicles like ATVs and e-rickshaws.
