Volkswagen’s highly anticipated third-generation Tiguan has been spotted undisguised, giving car enthusiasts a clear look at the upcoming production-spec SUV’s final design. While its official global debut is eagerly awaited, the new Tiguan is projected to be unveiled in the following months and is set to hit the European market in the first quarter of 2024.

The revamped Tiguan is anticipated to come with a range of powertrain options, including a plug-in hybrid variant. Although its European launch in Q1 2024 is on the horizon, there is no confirmation yet about its introduction in India. The vehicle showcases chrome accents and a notably sleeker design compared to its second-generation counterpart currently available in the Indian market.

Initial specifications have unveiled that the new Tiguan’s dimensions will surpass those of its predecessor. With a length of 4,551mm, it’s 32mm longer than the previous version. The third-generation Tiguan is also slightly taller, measuring 1,640mm, while maintaining the same 2,681mm wheelbase as its predecessor. The revealed images of the production-ready SUV exhibit a distinctive 5-spoke wheel design.

Volkswagen has confirmed that the updated Tiguan will provide an additional 33 litres of boot space and enhanced headroom and legroom. Notable features anticipated include ventilated and massaging seats in higher variants. The SUV will showcase a 15.0-inch infotainment screen akin to the ID.7 electric sedan and an upgraded windshield Head-Up Display (HUD).

Expect a diverse selection of powertrain options for the new Tiguan, tailored to various markets. A 1.5-litre mild-hybrid TSI petrol engine is projected to be on offer, alongside 2.0-litre TSI petrol and TDI diesel engines. Two plug-in hybrid powertrains are also in the pipeline, expected to generate 201hp and 268hp, respectively. These hybrids will incorporate a substantial 18.5kWh battery, providing an estimated all-electric range of 100km. The upcoming Tiguan will continue to be available in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations.

Volkswagen Tayron: The Replacement for Tiguan Allspace Bound for India

Although there is no official confirmation regarding the India launch of the third-generation Tiguan, Volkswagen has plans to introduce a brand-new three-row SUV based on the Tiguan’s foundation. Named the Tayron, this 7-seater SUV, designed on the MQB-A2 platform, is anticipated to arrive in India by early 2025.

Positioned alongside the Skoda Kodiaq, the VW Tayron will serve as a successor to the Tiguan Allspace, showcasing a distinct design from the 5-seater Tiguan. Unlike its predecessor, the Tayron is expected to be assembled in India through CKD kits, reinforcing Volkswagen’s commitment to the Indian market.
