Delhi becomes the first state in India to award a licence for bus operations under this scheme, and Uber is the first company to receive such a licence. Commuters can now book seats on their preferred routes using the “Uber Shuttle” option within the existing Uber app.

The launch of Uber Shuttle builds upon a successful pilot program conducted in Delhi NCR and a similar ongoing program in Kolkata. This new service aims to leverage Uber’s technological expertise to provide a convenient and efficient bus commuting experience.

Uber Shuttle offers air-conditioned buses operating on predefined routes, connecting business districts with residential areas across Delhi. Commuters can pre-book their seats up to a week in advance, directly through the app. The app also allows live tracking of the bus location, route, and estimated arrival time (ETA).

This service provides a seamless commuting experience with several advantages. Riders benefit from cashless payments and Uber’s round-the-clock safety features, including a 24/7 helpline.

The initiative is aligned with Uber’s global sustainability goals. By encouraging shared rides, Uber Shuttle aims to reduce traffic congestion and carbon footprint within the city. The Delhi government is pleased to collaborate with Uber, leveraging their global experience and technological capabilities to improve public transportation for Delhi residents.

“We are committed to building a business that caters to the mobility needs of every Indian,” said Amit Deshpande, Head of Uber Shuttle, India. “Buses are a crucial addition to our existing services, and following the successful pilot program, we are excited to officially launch Uber Shuttle in Delhi.”

Deshpande also highlighted the win-win nature of this initiative. Commuters gain a convenient and reliable commuting option, while drivers have access to a new source of income.

Each Uber Shuttle bus can accommodate between 19 and 50 passengers. These buses will be operated by local fleet partners who will utilise Uber’s technology platform for managing operations. The launch of Uber Shuttle in Delhi signifies a new chapter in public transportation, offering a tech-driven and convenient bus commuting experience for Delhiites.
