As part of its global alliance with Suzuki, Toyota India has launched the Urban Cruiser Taisor, which is a Toyota badged iteration of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. It comes with a choice of normal petrol, petrol-CNG and turbo petrol engine options with prices starting from INR 7.74 lakh ex-showroom.
Toyota Taisor — design and features
While the new Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor shares its underpinnings, engine options and features with the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, it boasts a redesigned front end along with small design changes to make it stand apart from its Suzuki cousin. The key changes include a larger radiator grille with honeycomb mesh, redesigned LED DRLs, 16-inch 5-spoke diamond-cut alloy wheels and tweaked connected LED tail lights. On the inside, the changes are made in the form of a different upholstery colour for the seats and door cards.
Speaking of features, the Toyota Taisor comes packed with a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Arkamys sound system, 360-degree parking camera, wireless smartphone charger, head-up display, coloured-MID, paddle shifters, rear AC vents, cruise control and automatic climate control.
Toyota Taisor — powertrain options
Like the Suzuki Fronx, the Toyota Taisor offers a choice of 2 engine options — a 1.2L naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.0L turbocharged petrol. The former also comes with a factory-fitted CNG option and a 5-speed manual transmission. The 1.2L four-cylinder engine produces 90PS of power and 113Nm of torque with a choice of 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT transmission options. The 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine, on the other hand, offers 100PS of power and 147Nm of torque with a choice of a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
Toyota Taisor — prices
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor prices start from INR 7.74 lakh and go up to INR 12.87 lakh ex-showroom. Toyota offers the Taisor with the naturally-aspirated petrol engine in E, S and S+ variants whereas the turbocharged engine is offered in G and V variants. The CNG option is only offered with the base E variant which is priced at INR 8.71 lakh.
It is worth mentioning that the Taisor with the naturally-aspirated petrol engine commands a premium of INR 22,000 over the Fronx. However, the turbocharged variants of the Taisor are priced similarly to that of the Fronx, which could be attributed to the low sales for the turbocharged variants of the Fronx.
