Toyota reveals the all-new Crown in Japan

Toyota Crown

Toyota Motor Corporation introduced the all-new Crown Sedan in Japan, commencing order acceptance for a planned launch on November 13. The latest addition to the Crown model line-up represents a shift towards diversity, aiming to redefine what the brand stands for and reaching for new value.

Crown Sedan: Reimagining the “New Formal”

The Crown Sedan signifies a return to the origins of the Crown brand, with a focus on sedan-type vehicles offering ride comfort, high-quality driving experiences, and a spacious environment that suits chauffeured cars.

Exterior Design: A Fresh Take on Elegance

The sedan sports an elegant and flowing appearance that departs from conventional sedan designs. It features flowing proportions, an exquisite hammerhead design, and a large Under Priority trapezoid grille with a vertical pattern on the front face, underlining its status as Toyota’s flagship vehicle. The rear, on the other hand, emphasizes width through taillights arranged in a straight line.

Interior Design: Island Architecture and Japanese Aesthetics

Inside, the Crown Sedan highlights island architecture, with a large wood-grain panel extending seamlessly from the instrument panel to the doors and a console that emerges from the panel. The cabin offers a spacious yet composed environment.

Furthermore, Japanese aesthetics are integrated into the interior design, with LEDs that support 64-tone color switching placed strategically throughout the cabin. This indirect lighting creates a gentle, lantern-like glow, adding depth and comfort to the space.

Colour Palette: Reflecting Mature Sensibilities

The Crown Sedan offers six sophisticated colour options to cater to various preferences, ranging from formal to personal. Choices include White, Silver, and Black for a more formal impression, while Metal, Grey, and Bronze add a personal touch. The interior comes in two themes: Black and Mid-brown.

Hospitality and Comfort for Chauffeured Cars

The vehicle’s design prioritizes the needs of chauffeured cars, featuring a three-meter wheelbase that provides ample rear seat space for smooth entry and exit. The sedan incorporates multiple hospitality features, including relaxation features and power sunshades, making it the ultimate space for mobility.

Powertrain Options for Sustainability

The Crown Sedan offers two powertrain options to meet diverse needs and contribute to sustainability:

High-Performance Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV): The FCEV operates on hydrogen, a clean fuel that emits no CO2 during operation. Equipped with the same high-performance fuel cell system as the Mirai, it provides a smooth and powerful driving experience with an 820-kilometer range on a three-minute hydrogen refill.

2.5-liter Multi-Stage Hybrid System: This system, featured in the Crown Sedan, combines an engine and two motors with stepped gears to deliver powerful dynamic performance across all speed ranges. The vehicle maintains low engine revs at high speeds, ensuring quiet operation and excellent fuel efficiency.

External Power Supply and Emergency Power Supply System

Owners of the FCEV can connect an external power supply to provide high-output power to their homes or electrical appliances. Additionally, both the FCEV and HEV versions enable the use of electrical products through two accessory outlets inside the vehicle, serving as an emergency power supply system.

Sales and Production Details

Toyota plans to produce approximately 600 units of the Crown Sedan per month. The sedan will be manufactured at the Motomachi Plant of Toyota Motor Corporation.

The launch of this flagship sedan caters to the desire for luxury, ride comfort, and environmental responsibility, aligning with the brand’s ethos of innovation and redefining the traditional sedan.
