It was announced in 2021 by Toyota Motor Corporation, in partnership with Toyota Tsusho (the trading arm of the Toyota Group), with an initial investment of $1.29 billion for battery production and the creation of 1,750 new jobs. The plant will supply batteries to Toyota’s Kentucky facility, which will build Toyota’s first U.S.-made electric vehicle, a new three-row SUV.
