17-year-old Tina Hausmann will join forces with the Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One Team for the upcoming 2024 F1 Academy season. The Swiss racer will be competing in the championship as part of PREMA Racing. Like Aston Martin’s f1 drivers, Hausmann will also be kitted out in the team’s iconic green overalls and will race in a specially designed livery.
Sharing her thoughts on the occasion, Hausmann said, “F1 Academy is an incredible opportunity for me; it’s an amazing series that I’m proud to be a part of. I know I’ll learn so much that will really help me as a driver, including the experience I’ll gain from racing on seven new tracks in front of big crowds. It’s going to be a whole new world, but I’m so excited to get started. I’m also very proud to be competing with PREMA Racing. PREMA is a team that every young driver hopes to race for – they’re the best at what they do – and I know that they’ll help me develop as I continue in my motorsport career. There is so much to look forward to, and I want to thank everybody who has made it possible.”
Hausmann will join the all-female F1 Academy grid after completing a year of racing in the Formula 4 season, in which she claimed a podium finish in the Spanish Formula Winter Series. She also claimed top honours in the female category of the 2023 Italian F4 Championship.
Hausmann embarked on her motorsport journey via karting at age seven. She competed in junior championships like the Swiss Rotax Mini and the OK-Junior series and finished fourth. From there, she progressed into Germany’s DKM (Deutsche Kart Meisterschaft, or the German Karting Championship) and the ADAC Masters Touring Car Championship.
Alongside Hausmann’s announcement, Aston Martin also confirmed Jessica Hawkins’ move to become the team’s Head of Racing for F1 Academy. Hawkins joined the team in 2021 as a Driver Ambassador. In September 2023, she completed her debut F1 test in the AMR21 in Hungary and became the first woman to drive a modern F1 car in almost five years. As the Head of Racing, she will work closely with Hausmann as her mentor, both on and off the track.
Not too long ago, William Racing nominated Lia Block, daughter of the late motorsport veteran Ken Block, to represent them with the ART Grand Prix team for the 2024 F1 Academy season. You can read more about it here.
