Tesla Commences Cybertruck Production at Texas Gigafactory

Tesla has officially initiated the production of its groundbreaking Cybertruck at the Texas Gigafactory, marking a significant milestone nearly four years after the vehicle’s initial unveiling. The first production Cybertruck was recently showcased on Tesla’s social media platforms, surrounded by assembly line workers at the Texas facility.

This development indicates a likelihood that Tesla will achieve its revised goal of initiating customer deliveries of the Cybertruck by the end of September. This revised timeline comes after a two-year delay from the initially projected 2021 delivery date, which was announced when the Cybertruck was first introduced in 2019.

Distinguished by its unconventional design, the Cybertruck presents a radical departure from traditional pick-up trucks, featuring a wedge-shaped profile, angular window frames, and flat bodywork with minimal curvature. The exterior is constructed from “ultra-hard 30X cold-rolled stainless steel,” boasting bulletproof qualities against 9mm bullets.

Offering three powertrain options, including single, dual, or tri-motor configurations, the Cybertruck demonstrates impressive performance. The single-motor variant, with rear-wheel drive, can accelerate from 0 to 60mph (0-100kph) in 6.5 seconds, offers a claimed range of 250 miles (400 kilometers), and a towing capacity of 3400kg.

The mid-range dual-motor variant provides all-wheel drive, accelerates from 0 to 60mph (0-100kph) in 4.5 seconds, and can tow more than 4500kg. The top-tier model features Tesla’s tri-motor Plaid EV powertrain, offering a remarkable range of 500 miles (800 kilometers), a sprint to 60mph in 2.9 seconds, and a towing capacity of 6350kg.

Equipped with adaptive air suspension and adjustable ride height, the Cybertruck provides versatility for various terrains. Its interior boasts a minimalist design, highlighted by a dominating 17-inch tablet-style touchscreen on the dashboard. The vehicle can accommodate up to six adults and offers ample storage, including a sizable load bay and lockable compartments.

While specific details and confirmation about the vehicle’s specifications are still pending, the Cybertruck is available for reservation in the US with a $100 fully refundable deposit. Despite initial reservations reaching around 200,000, conversions into actual sales remain uncertain. Notably, Tesla’s latest production milestone underscores its commitment to innovation and redefining automotive norms.
