Tata Motors recently revealed the new Safari facelift and also opened bookings for the SUV. With the facelift, which offers a slew of changes both inside and out, Tata has gone with a new variant nomenclature falling in line with the new Nexon. The new Safari comes in 4 grades, which Tata likes to refer to as personas — Smart, Pure, Adventure and Accomplished. These personas are further followed by additions like ‘+’ and Dark Edition variants.

Take a look at the key features of the Tata Safari facelift:

  • All-LED headlights
  • Fog lights with cornering function
  • 19-inch alloy wheels
  • Dual-zone climate control
  • 360-degree parking camera
  • Electronic parking brake
  • 7 airbags
  • Advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS)
  • Powered tailgate with gesture control
  • Electronically adjustable front seats (memory for driver)
  • Front and rear ventilated seats (6-seater only)
  • 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster
  • 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system

Powering the Tata Safari is the same FCA-sourced 2.0L turbo diesel engine, which now complies with the BS6 phase-2 emission norms. It produces a healthy 170PS of power at 3750rpm and 350Nm of torque between 1750rpm and 2500rpm. The engine channels power to the front wheels only via either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

The new Safari, with a revised exterior and interior design and new features, continues to rival other family SUVs like the Mahindra XUV700, MG Hector Plus and Jeep Meridian. While the Safari is diesel-only at this point, Tata will introduce a petrol-powered Safari sometime in 2024.
