Tata Power, a major player in India’s power industry, is set to make significant strides in the electric vehicle (EV) charging sector. The company is geared up to bolster its EV charging infrastructure, with plans to establish more than 25,000 charging stations across India by 2028. This initiative aligns with Tata Power’s commitment to support the rapid adoption of electric vehicles as a part of its holistic energy solutions.

Tata Power currently holds a dominant position in the EV charging landscape, boasting an impressive market share of nearly 60%. The company has already made substantial investments by deploying over 40,000 home chargers, approximately 4,000 public and semi-public charging points, and 250 bus charging stations.

To enhance user convenience and accessibility, Tata Power has developed the Tata Power EZ Charge mobile app. This app streamlines the EV charging experience, allowing users to effortlessly locate nearby charging stations, check real-time availability, and receive updates on charging progress.

The charging network covers diverse locations, including homes, workplaces, fleet stations, public areas, and commercial hubs like e-bus charging depots. Many of these charging stations incorporate fast-charging technology and are strategically positioned in high-traffic areas such as shopping centers, hotels, airports, and office complexes.

Tata Power’s commitment to operational excellence is evident through the establishment of a cutting-edge Network Operations Centre (NOC). This NOC plays a pivotal role in managing the nationwide charging infrastructure, maintaining real-time communication with on-board chargers, and swiftly addressing technical issues through a dedicated maintenance team. It ensures seamless operation, timely issue resolution, and proactive infrastructure maintenance.

Furthermore, Tata Power is facilitating long-distance EV journeys by strategically positioning charging stations along more than 60% of India’s national highways. These charging facilities provide critical connectivity on major routes, including Delhi-Chandigarh, Delhi-Agra, Mumbai-Goa, Hyderabad-Warangal, and Bengaluru-Chennai, enabling convenient intercity and interstate travel for EV owners.

Tata Power’s ambitious initiative aligns seamlessly with the Government of India’s National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP), which envisions the widespread development of EV charging infrastructure with a focus on cutting-edge technology and accessibility.

Notably, Tata Power is working in collaboration with the National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) to deploy up to 5,000 EV charging points across properties developed by NAREDCO members in Maharashtra. This strategic partnership aims to accelerate the growth of EV infrastructure and promote sustainable transportation solutions.

As India continues its journey toward a cleaner and greener transportation ecosystem, Tata Power is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of EV charging infrastructure with its expansive and forward-thinking network expansion plans.
