Tata Motors made a significant stride towards sustainable mobility by rolling out a fleet of electric buses for workforce transportation at its Pantnagar plant in Uttarakhand. The zero emission buses are built indigenously with advanced features and state of the art battery systems. The Tata Ultra 9m electric buses will be operated by TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Limited (TSCMSL), a subsidiary of Tata Motors, for employee commuting.
The eco-friendly initiative will transport over 5,000 employees daily, reducing the facility’s carbon footprint by a significant amount. By using electricity generated at a 16MW solar energy plant, the electric fleet is projected to save around 1,100 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. This makes sure the operation is green from the get go.
At the launch Vishal Badshah, Vice President and Head of Operations, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles noted, saying: ‘Introducing electric buses for workforce commuting is a significant stride towards achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045’. This initiative emphasises a green value chain at GM and our commitment to practices that preserve the environment. “It gives me great pride to begin this project out of our Pantnagar facility, which has already become a leader in sustainability by being USDA certified organic, a Zero Waste to Landfill facility, and a water positive plant by CII-GBC.”
Tata Ultra EV 9m buses come with a full electric drivetrain and smart features like a regenerative braking system and Intelligent Transport Systems. Tata Motors’ leadership in electric mass mobility is reflected in these vehicles. So far, the company has deployed over 3,100 electric buses in more than 10 cities in India. These Tata Motors buses have cumulatively driven more than 24 crore km, with an uptime over 95 percent, proving the reliability and efficiency of Tata Motors’ eMobility offerings.
The launch of this Tata can be seen as a conduit of Tata Motors’ commitment towards promoting sustainable practices and setting a new benchmark of green workforce transportation.
