New Delhi: Tata Motors, India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, has successfully delivered 400 Starbus EV buses to the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) as part of a substantial order to supply, maintain, and operate 1,500 low-floor, air-conditioned electric buses over a 12-year period.
These zero-emission buses, built under the “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives, represent a significant step towards greener and more sustainable intra-city transportation within the National Capital Territory of Delhi. With this delivery, Tata Motors has now supplied over 1,000 electric buses across the country.
The fleet of 400 electric buses was jointly inaugurated by Vinai Kumar Saxena, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, and Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi, on September 5, 2023. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Kailash Gahlot, Minister of Law, Revenue, Transport, Women & Child Development, Information Technology, and Administrative Reform, Government of Delhi, Naresh Kumar, IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Delhi, Ashish Kundra, Commissioner-cum-Principal Secretary (Transport) Government of Delhi, and Shilpa Shinde, IAS, Managing Director, DTC.
Positive Impact on Mass Mobility
Shilpa Shinde, IAS, Managing Director, DTC, expressed her enthusiasm for the introduction of these zero-emission electric buses, highlighting their role in enhancing mass mobility in Delhi. She stated, “DTC is committed to providing efficient, economical, and reliable road transport services to the citizens of Delhi. This addition of 400 electric buses will make mass mobility safer, smarter, and greener across the National Capital Territory. In addition to providing ready access, more comfort, and greater convenience to commuters, these next-gen buses will also contribute to our collective efforts to improve the city’s air quality.”
Partnership for Sustainable Transportation
Asim Kumar Mukhopadhyay, Chairman of TML CV Mobility Solutions Limited, expressed his delight in partnering with DTC to contribute to green, noiseless, and emission-free mass mobility. He also revealed that 1100 more electric buses would be supplied to DTC in a phased manner, further emphasizing their commitment to making public transport in Delhi cleaner, sustainable, safe, comfortable, convenient, and energy-efficient.
