Stellantis, a leader in the automotive industry, has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative at the Rematec trade fair: the SUSTAINera product line. This move marks a significant stride toward a future characterized by sustainability and innovation.
Alison Jones, Senior Vice-President and Global Circular Economy head at Stellantis, took the stage to shed light on the company’s progressive approach. Stellantis has embraced a Circular Economy business model founded on four fundamental principles: Remanufacturing, Repair, Reuse, and Recycle. Jones emphasized that remanufacturing is a pivotal pillar, aimed at extending the lifespan of products and enhancing the company’s range of aftersales spare parts.
At the core of the SUSTAINera line are more than 13,000 parts spanning 37 distinct categories, ranging from starters and alternators to clutches, turbochargers, and even high-voltage batteries for electric vehicles. What sets these remanufactured parts apart is their remarkable environmental impact. On average, they decrease raw material consumption by an impressive 60% to 95%, substantially cutting down on the use of valuable resources. Additionally, these parts contribute to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions, with a range of 30% to 80% compared to the production of new components.
Stellantis further underlined its commitment to sustainability by presenting two standout vehicles at the trade fair. The Peugeot e-208 showcased a remanufactured high-voltage battery, underscoring the company’s dedication to circular design and resource efficiency. The Citroën ‘Oli’ concept car, on the other hand, exemplified the innovative Design for Circular Economy approach, representing a harmonious blend of aesthetics and sustainable practices.
This initiative aligns seamlessly with Stellantis’ ambitious targets of achieving Carbon Net Zero by 2038 and realizing a circular economy turnover exceeding 2 billion euros by 2030. The company’s remarkable success in increasing global sales of SUSTAINera remanufactured parts by 19% in 2022 speaks volumes about the growing momentum within the sustainable movement.
