Skoda recently took the wraps off the new fourth-generation Superb sedan globally. While we thought that Skoda will bring the new Superb, the Czech carmaker has launched the third-gen Superb, which was already on sale before, at an absurd price of INR 54 lakh, which is almost INR 17 lakh more expensive than the last recorded price of the Superb sedan.
While the Superb that has been relaunched is essentially the same car as the last one, it brings a couple of additions. To begin with, the Superb now offers Dynamic Chassis Control which is a segment-exclusive feature and offers adaptive dampers to change the dynamics of the sedan.
Speaking of other features, the Superb comes packed with LED headlights, LED fog lights, headlight washers, dynamic turn indicators, 360-degree parking camera, 9-airbags, power-adjustable front seats with massage function for the driver, tri-zone climate control, virtual cockpit, machined alloy wheels and 11-speaker Canton sound system with a subwoofer.
Powering the Skoda Superb is the same 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine as before, albeit it now complies with BS6 phase-2 emissions and E20 fuel. The updated engine puts out 190PS of power and 320Nm of torque and comes mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
This time around, the Superb will only be available in the top-spec Lauren & Klement trim. Earlier, Skoda also offered standard and Sportline variants with the Superb, helping the introductory price to come down a little, thereby making the D-segment sedan more attainable to the buyers.
Surprisingly, the new Superb is considerably more expensive than the Skoda Kodiaq, which in the L&K variant retails at INR 40 lakh ex-showroom. The Kodiaq comes with the same 2.0L turbocharged engine and adds the convenience of SUV stance, all-wheel-drive and 3-row seating.
