Skoda is revving up to bring the second-generation Kodiaq to life, with production set to take place in Kvasiny. Investing 12 million euros to reconfigure the production line, Skoda is gearing up to roll out the SUV with up to seven seats, including a plug-in hybrid version, in 2024.
The upcoming second-generation Kodiaq is poised to make its entrance as one of Skoda’s new models this year. Staying true to its manufacturing roots, Skoda is primed to continue the production of the SUV in Kvasiny. The process involves an extensive adaptation of the production line, with the first pilot production vehicles already in production. Series production is scheduled to commence in the following year.
Michael Oeljeklaus, Skoda Auto Board Member for Production and Logistics, remarked, “Preparations for our upcoming second-generation Kodiaq are already underway. Staying in line with Skoda’s approach, we are ingeniously incorporating new technologies within existing infrastructure. However, overhauling and fortifying an active assembly line is a substantial technical and logistical feat. Simultaneously, we have adeptly redistributed and enhanced our model production, freeing up additional capacity.”
The new Kodiaq will be produced at the Kvasiny plant, sharing the production line with the Karoq, Superb, and Superb iV models. With the new-gen Superb’s production set to kick off in Bratislava in early 2024, around 150,000 extra units of the popular Kodiaq and Karoq SUVs can be accommodated annually.
Allocating approximately 12 million euros for the conversion of the production line, Skoda is ensuring its readiness for future requirements. The upgraded line will be equipped to manufacture the Kodiaq iV, featuring a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. This investment encompasses the integration of existing technologies, modification of robots for window-glue application, and the inclusion of manipulators and conveyors. The reconfigured assembly line is projected to yield up to 410 second-generation Kodiaqs daily.
Scheduled for a market launch in 2024, Skoda’s second-generation Kodiaq is set to raise the bar in terms of efficiency and innovation. This comprehensive SUV will come with a range of engine options, including modern petrol and diesel variants, a plug-in hybrid, and a debut mild hybrid offering. Upholding its commitment to safety, technology, and versatility, Skoda is elevating its largest SUV to new heights.
Since its global debut in September 2016, the Skoda Kodiaq has achieved remarkable success, with over 800,000 units produced across manufacturing facilities in the Czech Republic, Ukraine, China, India, and Russia (until early 2022).
