SAIC Motor, JSW Group forge strategic joint venture for MG Motor in India

SAIC Motor, a global Fortune 500 company, and JSW Group, a leading Indian conglomerate, have formalized a strategic joint venture aimed at accelerating the transformation and growth of MG Motor in India. The partnership, marked by the signing of Shareholder and Share Purchase & Share Subscription agreements, was executed by SAIC Motor’s President, Wang Xiaoqiu, and JSW Group’s Parth Jindal at MG UK Headquarters in London.

Objective and synergies

The primary objective of the joint venture is to leverage strategic synergies, combining resources in the fields of automobiles and new technology. The collaboration will extend to various initiatives, including enhancing local sourcing, improving charging infrastructure, expanding production capacity, and introducing a broader range of vehicles with a specific focus on green mobility.

Agreement terms

As per the agreement, JSW Group will hold a 35% stake in the Indian joint venture operations. SAIC Motor will continue supporting the collaboration by contributing advanced technology and products to provide innovative mobility solutions tailored for the Indian consumer.

Wang Xiaoqiu, President of SAIC Motor, emphasized the global nature of the automobile business and the importance of access and collaboration for healthy growth. The ‘win-win cooperation’ approach was highlighted, focusing on bringing innovation, greener mobility products, and smarter services to the Indian automotive market.

Parth Jindal, representing JSW Group, expressed the collaboration’s strategic goal of growing and transforming MG Motor operations in India, with a specific emphasis on green mobility solutions. The joint venture aims to introduce technology-enabled futuristic automobile products, including intelligent connected NEVs (New Energy Vehicles) and ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) vehicles. Jindal also underscored the joint venture’s commitment to broader localization initiatives and developing the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem.
