Porsche Taycan Turbo GT breaks records before launch

The Porsche Taycan GT has broken the record for the fastest electric model to lap the Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca, in California with a time of 1:27.87 minutes. The pre-production Taycan GT also lapped around the Nurburgring with a time of 7:07.55 minutes, gaining a whopping 26-second advantage over the Taycan Turbo S.

The new Taycan Turbo GT benefits from all the powertrain and electrical advancements that Porsche introduced with the updated Taycan. In addition to the new electric motors, the Taycan GT also features a more powerful pulse inverter, which enables the Taycan to belt out 1033PS of power with launch control. As a result, the Taycan GT is capable of sprinting from 0-100kmph in under 2.3 seconds. Add the Weissach package and the time comes down to 2.2 seconds!

Speaking of powertrain output, the new Taycan GT puts out 788PS of power and up to 1,340Nm of torque. The Attack mode boosts the power output by an additional 163PS for 10 seconds, which can be activated either via the button mounted on the steering wheel or by pulling the right-hand-side steering paddle shifter. With all the performance in the bag, the Taycan GT also manages to offer a WLTP-claimed range of 555km on a single charge.

For the Taycan GT to go insanely fast, Porsche has also cut down its kerb weight. Compared to the Taycan Turbo S, the Taycan GT weighs 75kg less which has been possible thanks to an extensive usage of carbon fibre. The b-pillars, upper shells of the door mirrors, side skirts, and bucket seats — all see an extensive usage of carbon fibre and CFRP materials to reduce weight. For better braking performance, the new Porsche Taycan GT also packs carbon ceramic brakes.
