Orxa Energies, an electric vehicle (EV) and energy systems company, unveiled the Mantis, its latest electric motorcycle, marking a significant addition to the mid-segment category. Positioned as the ‘Ultimate Street Predator,’ the Mantis boasts a kerb weight of 182kg, making it the lightest in its segment.
Performance and range
Priced at INR 3.6 Lakhs ex-showroom Bangalore, the Mantis features a 1.3 kW charger, achieving a top speed of 135 km/h. Accelerating from 0 km/h to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds and 0-20 km/h in 2.7 seconds, the bike is designed with city traffic dynamics in mind. The Mantis is equipped with an 8.9 kWh battery pack, offering a commendable range of 221 km (IDC est*).
Design and engineering journey
Orxa Energies’ Co-Founder, Dr. Prajwal Sabnis, highlighted the extensive journey from the conceptualisation in 2015 to the launch of the Mantis. The design and engineering underwent rigorous testing, including riding thousands of kilometres on various terrains across the country.
Strategic partnerships for ecosystem strengthening
Orxa Energies has collaborated with Spare It, Bolt, and Nunam to enhance the EV ecosystem. Nunam’s end-of-life battery buyback services offer a 40% cost advantage, Spare It serves as the official service partner, and Bolt’s fast-charging network ensures seamless experiences for Mantis owners.
Ranjita Ravi, Co-Founder at Orxa Energies, emphasised the commitment to empowering the broader EV community with the Mantis. The bike reflects the company’s dedication to meeting the needs and desires of EV users and bikers, positioning it as a product “built by bikers, for bikers.”
Evolution of the Mantis concept
Inspired by the characteristics of ambush predators, the Mantis concept emerged in 2016. The Trike prototype in 2018 evolved into the Mantis, unveiled at IBW 2019. Utilising the pandemic period, Orxa Energies focused on weight optimisation, resulting in a remarkable 25 kg reduction.
Key Features
The Mantis features a fully cast aerospace-grade all-aluminium frame, an advanced BMS with dual-redundant thermal management, an IP67 rated battery case, a fully digital 5” TFT dashboard, and a best-in-segment ground clearance of 180 mm.
Orxa Energies’ Mantis adds a compelling option to the mid-segment electric motorcycle category, focusing on performance, range, and a rider-centric approach.
