Chinese electric car maker NIO has taken the wraps off its new flagship electric sedan – ET9 – at the company’s ‘NIO Day’ annual event. The smart EV features the company’s self-developed technologies including semiconductors. The electric executive flagship sedan has been specifically designed for the new generation of high-end business users with a spacious and sophisticated interior on offer. The company believes that the new model would help improve its profitability amid a bruising price war and slowing car demand.
Deliveries of the NIO ET9 are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2025 with the vehicle carrying an estimated price tag of 800,000 yuan (USD 112,178). The vehicle is available for pre-order in China.

NIO ET9 comes in a four-seat layout. It has a length of 5,325mm, a width of 2,016mm, a height of 1,620mm, and a wheelbase of 3,250mm. It adopts the Landjet design, presenting a strong posture while offering ample cabin space, comfort, safety, and steering to passengers and driver.

The executive sedan comes in two interior layouts – Sky Island and Executive Bridge, both offering first-class comfort to passengers. Inside the Executive Bridge, the vehicle offers a 360-degree versatile tray table for the passengers in the rear seats, which can be adjusted at any angle.
The rear seats make use of 24 self-developed patented technologies, with a maximum backrest adjustment angle of 45 degrees, a seat cushion width of 582mm, and 11 adjustments with one click. There are seven electric sunshades, which can be activated with one click.

NIO ET9 brings together more than 100 full-stack technologies, including 17 world-first technologies, 52 leading technologies, and 525 patents filed. The company claims that the vehicle offers the world’s only driven-by-wire intelligent chassis. Its SkyRide Intelligent Chassis System integrates three core hardware systems – steer-by-wire, rear-wheel steering, and full active suspension. The car comes equipped with NIO’s self-designed autonomous driving semiconductor, 900-voltage electric drive for fast charging and large cylindrical battery cells.

Thanks to the most advanced sensing units, computing capabilities and aviation-grade safety standards, NIO ET9 allows for safety redundancy in seven key systems of smart EV, including driving, braking, sensing, computing, communication, and power distribution.
