Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) recently announced details of its five-year business plan, called “Mitsubishi Motors Momentum 2030.” It outlines business and product plans that start immediately and run through fiscal year 2030. The plan was revealed to the company’s dealer partners in a national dealer meeting in Nashville, Tennessee.
In essence, Momentum 2030 focuses on four key points: Electrification with a blend of powertrains – hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery electric; launch of one new or completely refreshed vehicle each year between FY2026 and FY2030 (in new segments); revamping dealership design and increasing the dealer count; renewed focus on technology and innovation.
During the dealer presentation, Mitsubishi reportedly showed two new rugged vehicles, one of which could be a quirky off-road minivan. Media reports suggest it could be a production version of the D:X Concept Mitsubishi showcased in October 2023 (not confirmed by Mitsubishi yet). During its reveal, Mitsubishi had dropped some clear hints that the D:X could spawn the next-gen Delica. However, that has not been the case. As for the D:X, it looks like a space-age minivan that‘s equipped with off-road paraphernalia and a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
Given Mitsubishi’s lean and ageing model line-up in the US, the Japanese brand can do with a few exciting additions, and if the D:X Concept is destined to enter production, it could be one of the most exciting offerings in the pipeline. The line-up of new/updated models is likely to begin next year with the arrival of a lifted Outlander variant, followed by a new entry-level compact plug-in hybrid crossover replacement for the Mirage.
