MG5 EV is MG’s first car to receive 5 stars from Green NCAP

The MG5 EV is the first offering from MG Motor UK which went for the Green NCAP test. The electric estate secured a full 5 stars in the green car assessment program, ranking it in the top five models tested in 2023.

Green NCAP, which is the industry-leading European independent emissions assessment program, awarded the MG5 EV 5-star rating, which was assessed on 3 key pillars — clean air, energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions. The MG5 EV scored 95% which is among the top five scorers in 2023.

Since the MG5 is an all-electric estate, it doesn’t emit any tailpipe emissions thus securing full 10/10 marks in the clean air test. In the energy efficiency test, the MG5 received a rating of 9.2 out of 10 points. It secured good scores in three of the four efficiency grades with only the fourth grade missing out on the top score.

Finally, the MG5 secured 9.5 points out of 10 points in the greenhouse gases test. Combining the results of all three tests, the MG5 was awarded the LCA award, making it the second car tested in 2023 to receive the award.

LCA, which stands for Life Cycle Assessment, rating allows drivers to compare the environmental impact of multiple cars on an equal and comparable scale. The assessment of this rating includes the emissions costs in manufacturing the vehicle, including through its lifetime use and end-of-life treatment. Green NCAP awards the LCA rating to the best-performing models in the test, letting the customers find the vehicles with the least environmental impact quickly and easily.

Upon receiving the impressive result from Green NCAP, Guy Pigounakis, Commercial Director at MG Motor UK said, “At MG Motor UK, we are extremely proud of the work done in electrifying our model line-up. Many of our EVs are award-winning models, but for the MG5 EV to be recognised by Green NCAP proves the lengths that we are going to in terms of engineering efficiency and eco-consciousness into our vehicles.”
