German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz has inaugurated its first charging hub in Sandy Springs, Georgia which is powered by 100% clean energy from carbon neutral renewable energy sources. The premium charging hub is a part of the upcoming network of such EV charging stations across North America, in partnership with MN8 Energy. With the launch of these charging stations, the German car brand aims to promote EV adoption while adding a premium touch to the charging experience.
Highlights of the EV charging hub
The charging points provided by ChargePoint are capable of up to 400kW of power, offering fast and convenient charging options to customers. Interestingly, these charging points are open to drivers from all EV brands. The hub features overhead LED lighting for safety while solar panels ensure passive clean electricity. The installed chargers come with intelligent indicators, which comprise of a pylon built to a height of 15 feet and visible from the street. It indicates the status of the charging stall, whether it is in use, free or reserved.
Premium touch
The Mercedes charging hub has a lounge facility complete with chairs, vending machines, refreshments, and restroom facilities. Thanks to retail integration, these hubs will act as a spot where EV owners can get coffee with friends, check out latest fashion items or simply relax while their EVs juice up for the journey ahead. The aim is to provide customers with a one-stop solution for their needs.
Handicap accessibility
A charging spot in the hub has been specially designed for physically handicapped people, located closest to the charging lounge. There is an uncovered, drive-through charging spot as well which is designed for electric vans or EVs with trailers up to 26 feet in length.
Expansion plans
Mercedes-Benz plans to open more such EV charging hubs across Texas and the Southeast by the end of this year, expanding its network to at least 2,500 chargers across 400 charging hubs through North America by the end of the decade. The car brand plans to invest over USD 1 billion in this project together with MN8 Energy with an aim to build North America’s fastest EV charging network.
