Mercedes-Benz GLS launched at INR 1.32 crore

Mercedes-Benz GLS facelift

Mercedes-Benz India has launched the GLS facelift SUV in the country at INR 1.32 crore for the petrol variant while the diesel version costs INR 1.47 crore (both prices are ex-showroom). With this, the model renews its rivalry with the likes of Audi Q7 and BMW X7.

The Mercedes-Benz GLS facelift boasts some exterior changes, making it more appealing than the outgoing model. Speaking of the changes, it features a new 4-slat chrome grille flanked by LED headlights. The front profile further boasts a new bumper with chrome inserts. Around the side, the GLS facelift features the same 21-inch alloy wheels as before whereas the rear gains a new set of lights and a new bumper. Overall, the exterior changes of the GLS are subtle and marginally improve its aesthetics.

Moving to the inside, the new GLS features a few additions, which promise to improve the experience rather than the aesthetic appeal. Changes visible include a Maybach-inspired wooden dashboard trim and a new 3-spoke steering wheel. Other nifty interior changes include 100W fast charging ports, heated and ventilated front seats and electric boss mode.

In addition, Mercedes-Benz has also updated the MBUX system, which continues to come in a twin-glass casing. It now features wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and some new features. The newly-added Off-road package also includes a feature called transparent bonnet, which stitches the feed from the front camera to display the surface under the bonnet.

Moving to the powertrains, while the GLS continues to feature the same set of 3.0L petrol and diesel engine options, the latter now also features a 48V mild-hybrid system. The 3.0L turbocharged petrol engine produces 380PS of power and 500Nm of torque while its diesel engine puts out 367PS and 750Nm of torque. Both engines come mated to a mild-hybrid system that offers a temporary boost of 20PS and 200Nm. Also part of the kit is a 9-speed torque converter automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive as standard.
