Mercedes-Benz GLA, AMG GLE 53 Coupe facelifts launched, EQG showcased

Soon after the launch of the GLS facelift, Mercedes-Benz launched the new GLA facelift and GLE 53 AMG coupe. The new 2024 GLA facelift comes in three variants — 200 petrol, 220d diesel and 220d diesel AMG Line. Its prices start from INR 50.50 lakh and go up to INR 56.90 lakh ex-showroom. Starting with the cosmetic updates, the GLA comes with an updated front fascia, featuring revised LED headlights and a bumper design. A new set of alloy wheels and revised LED lights set the side and rear profiles apart from the outgoing model.

On the inside, the only perceptible change is the new 3-spoke steering wheel, exclusive to the AMG Line variant. On the features front, the new GLA brings passive keyless entry with digital key support, updated infotainment system with wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and games; 360-degree parking camera, blind spot detection, auto emergency braking and auto parking.

The new GLA carries over the same engine options as before — a 1.3L turbocharged petrol and a 2.0L turbocharged diesel. The turbocharged petrol engine puts out 163PS of power at 5500rpm and 270Nm of torque between 2,000 and 3,500rpm. On the other hand, the diesel engine puts out 190PS of power and 400Nm of torque between 1,600rpm and 2,600rpm. It is worth mentioning that only the diesel engine offers an all-wheel-drive train whereas the petrol engine continues with a front-wheel-drive layout.

The Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Coupe comes in a single-loaded variant. Over the outgoing model, the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Coupe boasts a couple of cosmetic enhancements, which include updated LED headlights, front and rear bumpers and alloy wheels. Furthermore, it offers many performance-centric features such as adaptive suspension, driving modes, variable exhaust system and AMG Track Pace.

Powering the AMG GLE 53 Coupe is a 3.0L inline-6 turbocharged petrol engine, which puts out 435PS of power and 560Nm of torque. The 48V mild hybrid system further offers 22PS of power and 200Nm of torque, as and when required. Thanks to its all-wheel-drive system, the AMG GLE 53 Coupe can go from a standstill to 100kmph in 5 seconds flat. Speaking of its price, the 2024 Mercedes AMG GLE 53 Coupe retails at INR 1.85 crore ex-showroom.

Lastly, Mercedes-Benz also showcased the EQG Concept, which is the G-Class with an electric architecture. While the one showcased today was a concept, Mercedes demonstrated the famous ‘Tank Turn’ of the EQG at CES 2024 in production form. What’s interesting to note is that Mercedes-Benz has confirmed its plans to launch the EQG in the Indian market.
