The Maserati GT2, driven by the dynamic duo of Leonardo Gorini and Carlo Tamburini for LP Racing, secured its second consecutive victory in the Fanatec GT2 European Series Powered by Pirelli. This triumph took place at the recently concluded Misano World Circuit round, solidifying the Italian pair’s lead in both the overall and ProAm standings.
The #1 Maserati GT2 dominated Race 1, with Gorini starting from the second row and strategically taking the lead after the pit stop handover to Tamburini. This tactical decision proved fruitful, propelling Tamburini to secure the chequered flag. Meanwhile, teammate Philippe Prette, piloting the #2 Maserati GT2, managed a podium finish in third place, earning him the Am class victory. Alexandre Leroy of TFT Racing, driving another Maserati GT2, also impressed by claiming third in the Am class and finishing the race in sixth position.
Race 2 saw Tamburini starting from pole position but encountering a slightly longer pit stop due to regulations for Race 1 winners. This setback placed Gorini in fifth position upon his return to the track. However, Gorini displayed exceptional driving prowess, launching a thrilling comeback that secured him a well-deserved second-place finish.
The fight for fourth place overall was intense, with Leroy engaging in a pulsating battle before ultimately crossing the finish line in fifth, maintaining his lead in the Am class. Unfortunately, Prette’s race was cut short due to an accident caused by another competitor shortly after the start.
With these impressive results, Gorini and Tamburini have climbed to the top of the 2024 Fanatec GT2 European Series Powered by Pirelli overall and ProAm standings. Leroy has also taken the lead in the Am class, pushing Prette to the second position.
The series is set to continue at Spa, Belgium, from May 25th to 30th. Sgro further expanded on the connection between the Maserati GT2, developed based on the MC20, and the non-road-legal Maserati MCXtrema, designed for racing enthusiasts. He concluded by expressing confidence in Maserati’s ability to excel on both tracks and roads, fueled by the technology and performance showcased at Misano. The upcoming rounds promise to be even more exciting as new teams join the grid with their recently acquired Maserati GT2s.
