New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the renowned automobile giant, has set new benchmarks in its August sales figures for 2023, achieving its highest-ever monthly sales volume for the month of August Maruti Suzuki reported a total of 189,082 units sold, setting a new record. This reflects a substantial increase from the 165,173 units sold in August 2022, marking a remarkable 14.51% growth year-on-year.
In the Mini category, which includes models like Alto and S-Presso, catering to the compact car segment, Maruti Suzuki sold 12,209 units in August 2023, showcasing a significant decline from the 22,162 units sold in the same period last year, August 2022. This decline represents a 45% drop in sales year-on-year.
The compact segment, consisting of popular models like Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, Tour S, and WagonR, has been a consistent performer. In August 2023, Maruti Suzuki sold 72,451 units, marginally surpassing the 71,557 units sold in August 2022. This reflects a modest 1.26% increase in sales year-on-year.
The combined figures for the Mini and Compact segments reveal an overall decrease in sales for August 2023 compared to the previous year. In August 2023, Maruti Suzuki sold 84,660 units, down from the 93,719 units sold in August 2022. This translates to a 9.62% reduction in sales year-on-year.
The Mid-Size category, represented by the Ciaz, reported sales of 849 units in August 2023. This marks a notable drop from the 1,516 units sold in the same month last year, August 2022. Sales in this category decreased by 44.0% year-on-year.
In total, Maruti Suzuki sold 85,509 passenger cars in August 2023, reflecting a decrease from the 95,235 units sold in August 2022. This category, comprising all passenger car segments, witnessed a 10.19% decline in sales year-on-year.
The Utility Vehicles category, which includes models like Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Invicto, Jimny, S-Cross, and XL6, demonstrated exceptional growth. In August 2023, Maruti Suzuki sold 58,746 units in this category, compared to 26,932 units sold in August 2022. This represents an impressive 118.28% increase in sales year-on-year.
Maruti Suzuki’s vans, primarily the Eeco, have maintained a consistent sales performance. In August 2023, the company sold 11,859 units in this category, slightly down from the 11,999 units sold in August 2022. This reflects a marginal 1.17% decrease in sales year-on-year.
When combining the sales figures for all passenger vehicle categories, Maruti Suzuki reported total domestic passenger vehicle sales of 156,114 units in August 2023. This is a significant improvement from the 134,166 units sold in August 2022, marking a substantial 16.36% growth year-on-year.
The Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV) segment, represented by the Super Carry, reported sales of 2,564 units in August 2023, compared to 3,371 units in August 2022. This translates to a 23.97% decrease in sales year-on-year.
Considering both passenger vehicles and light commercial vehicles, Maruti Suzuki’s total domestic sales in August 2023 amounted to 158,678 units. This represents an improvement from the 137,537 units sold in August 2022, marking a 15.41% increase year-on-year.
Maruti Suzuki also engages in strategic transactions with other Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). In August 2023, the company sold 5,790 units to other OEMs, compared to 6,155 units in August 2022. This reflects a 5.92% decrease in sales year-on-year.
Taking into account sales to other OEMs along with domestic sales of passenger vehicles and light commercial vehicles, Maruti Suzuki reported total domestic sales of 164,468 units in August 2023. This represents a notable improvement from the 143,692 units sold in August 2022, marking a 14.42% increase year-on-year.
In August 2023, the company exported 24,614 units, compared to 21,481 units in August 2022. This represents an 14.59% increase in exports year-on-year.
Considering both domestic and export sales, Maruti Suzuki reported total sales of 189,082 units in August 2023. This reflects a substantial increase from the 165,173 units sold in August 2022, marking a remarkable 14.51% growth year-on-year.
