Magna Expands Mexico Lighting Division

Global automotive supplier Magna is significantly expanding its lighting division in Querétaro, Mexico, following a series of new business awards for rear lighting solutions from various automakers. With an investment of $17 million, the expansion will add approximately 165,000 square feet to the facility and solidify Magna’s commitment to driving innovation in lighting technology.

Jeff Hunt, President of Magna Mechatronics, Mirrors & Lighting, emphasized the importance of lighting in the mobility industry, highlighting its critical role in vehicle safety and design. The expansion aligns seamlessly with Magna’s progressive business strategy, fostering new products and innovations in lighting technology.

The Querétaro facility specializes in the production of rear lighting technology, including tail lamps and appliques, catering to multiple global automakers. The expansion is expected to enhance production capabilities, with the start of production scheduled for 2024.

Upon completion of the expansion, the lighting division’s footprint will exceed 340,000 square feet. Alongside this growth, Magna anticipates the creation of over 280 new jobs within the next four years, resulting in a workforce of approximately 800 employees at full production capacity.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion, held on August 10, was attended by company officials, customers, and local government representatives. Magna’s investment underscores its dedication to advancing lighting solutions, bolstering its foothold in the industry, and contributing to the local community’s growth in Querétaro.
