For the first time in Land Rover’s history, the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport will be produced outside the UK, in none other than India, exclusively for Indian customers. The move will enable the clientele in India to benefit from shorter wait times and significantly lower prices. However, JLR has not confirmed the mode of production – local manufacturing (via local sourcing of parts) or assembly of CKD kits imported from the UK.
To mark the occasion, JLR announced the opening of Range Rover House India, located in Alibaug, Maharashtra. It will house some of the first Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles produced locally. The flagship SUVs join the Range Rover Velar, Range Rover Evoque, Jaguar F-Pace, and Discovery Sport which are already locally manufactured at JLR’s facility in Pune, Maharashtra.
The locally produced Range Rover is available in two variants – 3.0-litre Petrol Autobiography (393bhp/550Nm) and 3.0-litre Diesel HSE (346bhp/700Nm). They are priced at ₹2.36 crore and ₹2.60 lakh, respectively (ex-showroom). Deliveries will begin starting today.
The locally produced Range Rover Sport is also available in two variants – 3.0-litre Petrol Dynamic SE (393bhp/550Nm) and 3.0-litre Diesel Dynamic SE (346bhp/700Nm). They are priced at ₹1.40 crore, ex-showroom. Deliveries will begin on 16th August 2024.
Sharing his thoughts on the momentous occasion, Rajan Amba, Managing Director of JLR India, said, “This is a proud moment for all of us in India, as we become the first country to locally manufacture the iconic Range Rover. It is a testament to the quality standards we have successfully achieved in local manufacturing in India, which are at par with JLR standards globally. Manufacturing the Range Rover family locally will bring together the best of both worlds, as outstanding British design, technology and refinement meets the pride of owning a ‘Made in India’ luxury vehicle.”
