Lohum has announced a significant investment of INR 1,000 crore to develop and manufacture next-generation ‘Manganese-rich’ LMFP lithium-ion batteries over the next three years. This ambitious plan aims to set up a capacity exceeding 20 GWh, marking a major milestone in India’s battery manufacturing industry.

Strategic partnership and expert involvement

Lohum has secured the expertise of Chaitanya Sharma, a Tesla veteran, to spearhead the development of these next-gen manganese-based lithium-ion batteries. Sharma’s extensive experience in battery technology is expected to drive innovation and enhance the company’s competitive edge in the rapidly evolving EV market.

In addition to this, Lohum has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of Tamil Nadu to establish an integrated recycling and Cathode Active Material production facility in the state. This collaboration highlights Lohum’s commitment to sustainability and local manufacturing, aligning with the Indian government’s vision for self-reliance in critical industries.
