Limited-run Ferrari 296 GTB pays homage to iconic F2004 race car

Italian sports car make Ferrari’s personalisation division – Ferrari Atelier – has configured a special edition of Ferrari 296 GTB that pays homage to the F2004 Formula One race car. With only five units to be produced, the ultra limited edition dons a livery combining the three-layer metallic Rosso F1 shade with Bianco King White accents. The latter can be spotted on bumper intakes, roof, side sills, and rear fascia while the number 1 graces the bonnet.

The special livery immediately strikes nostalgia, harking back to the era when Scuderia Ferrari, the company’s racing division, reigned supreme in Formula One. The model celebrates the racing division’s triumphant performance at the 2004 Hungarian Grand Prix. Drivers Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello were at the helm of the significant moment.

This victory allowed Ferrari to clinch its sixth consecutive constructors’ world championship. The F2004 F1 race car has made a mark in the history as Ferrari’s most triumphant F1 single-seaters with 15 wins and a total of 30 podium finishes across 20 races under its belt.

The special edition model is based on the 296 GTB with the track-focused Asseto Fiorano package. It gets a carbon fiber splitter, set of Multimatic shock absorbers derived from GT racing, the optional carbon fiber wheels shod in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres, and the four-point safety harnesses inside the cabin. To commemorate the legendary win, Atelier has stitched an outline of the Huangaroring track and the Hungarian flag on the headrests of the vehicle. These are combined with self-explanatory side sills made of carbon fiber.

The model retains the electrified powertrain of the Ferrari 296 GTB, which comprises a mid-mounted twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 and an electric motor. It delivered a combined output of 819 hp (611 kW / 830 PS) of power and 546 lb-ft (740 Nm) of torque. All five units of the special edition have already been sold to Hungarian customers.
