Lancia heralds itself into electric mobility with the Ypsilon electric hatchback. The vehicle showcases a distinctive design influenced by both contemporary concepts and Lancia’s heritage. With a focus on design, comfort, and technological innovation, the Ypsilon marks a significant step for the Italian automaker.
The Ypsilon Limited Edition Cassina, inspired by Italian furnishings, pays homage to Lancia’s establishment in 1906, with only 1906 units slated for production. Its design draws inspiration from various sources, combining classic elegance with a modern flair. Notably, elements from iconic Lancia models like the Stratos and Delta, as well as architectural and fashion influences, are evident in its aesthetic.
In terms of design, the Ypsilon exhibits a sleek profile reminiscent of the Peugeot e-208, featuring distinctive Y-shaped diamond-cut alloy wheels and LED headlights. At the rear, rounded tail-lights inspired by the 1970s Stratos rally car add a touch of heritage. The vehicle’s branding, including a redesigned bumper-width logo, contributes to its commanding presence on the road.
On the performance front, the Ypsilon boasts a respectable electric range of 403km, thanks to its 51kWh battery, shared with models like the Peugeot e-208 and Vauxhall Corsa Electric. It’s capable of accelerating from 0 to 100kmph in 8.2 seconds and hitting a top speed of 150kmph. Additionally, rapid charging capability allows for a 20% to 80% charge in just 24 minutes, enhancing convenience for drivers.
Collaborating with renowned Italian furniture maker Cassina, Lancia has curated a distinct interior for the Ypsilon. The cabin features ribbed velvet seats with a cannelloni motif, complemented by a flat-bottomed leather steering wheel and Stellantis’s advanced Sound Air Light Augmentation (Sala) infotainment system. The system offers customisable widgets displayed on two standard screens, facilitating seamless interaction between the driver and the vehicle.
While pricing details for the Ypsilon remain undisclosed, it is anticipated to command a premium over comparable models like the Peugeot e-208 and Vauxhall Corsa Electric. Lancia has confirmed plans to introduce the Ypsilon in select European markets such as Spain, France, the Netherlands, and Belgium, with the UK market yet to be confirmed.
