Automobili Lamborghini’s commitment to sustainability reached a significant milestone with the Lamborghini World Finals 2023 earning ISO 20121 certification for sustainable event management. The event, held from November 16-19 at the Vallelunga circuit near Rome, showcased Lamborghini’s dedication to environmental, social, and economic sustainability.
The ISO 20121 certification, awarded by TÜV Italia, signifies that the organisation of the Lamborghini World Finals 2023 adhered to best practices in sustainability. This recognition aligns with Lamborghini’s broader sustainability initiative, the Direzione Cor Tauri plan.
During a ceremony, Francesco Scarlata, Director of the Business Assurance Division at TÜV Italia, presented the ISO 20121 certificate to Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. Winkelmann remarked, “For us, this recognition represents not only an achievement but also an important moment in the sustainability path undertaken by Lamborghini.”
Lamborghini’s commitment to sustainability dates back to 2009, and Winkelmann emphasised the company’s progress and involvement of the entire organisation, including the racing division Squadra Corse. According to him, the achievement at the 2023 World Finals further motivates Lamborghini to pursue its ambitious goal of a fully sustainable championship.
Squadra Corse, Lamborghini’s racing division, has been at the forefront of sustainable practices. In 2022, it received ISO 20121 certification for the Misano stage of the Super Trofeo Europe. The Lamborghini World Finals 2023 marked additional milestones, including comprehensive training courses and awareness initiatives on sustainability for team members, drivers, and technicians.
The sustainable management of the Vallelunga event encompassed various aspects, emphasising waste reduction through recycling, emission reduction by employing electric scooters and golf cars for staff mobility, and collaboration with local companies for sustainable catering practices. The event featured organic and locally-sourced food and beverages, and surplus meals were donated to the Food Bank of Rome.
Attention to materials used was also paramount, with a focus on minimising packaging and disposable plastic items. Bio-compostable cutlery and recyclable aluminium containers were introduced as eco-friendly alternatives.
As per the ISO 20121 standard, the Lamborghini World Finals 2023 will undergo a reporting phase to assess the achieved results, gather insights, and establish new sustainability goals for future stages of the tournament. The certification reinforces Lamborghini’s commitment to combining high-performance automotive excellence with responsible and sustainable practices.
