Kia Telluride is one of the best-selling SUVs in North America and it has garnered a lot of praise for its unique style, great practicality and value for money. While Kia cars have gained a respectable user base worldwide, the occasional recalls make the experience a little bitter. The latest recall from Kia is for the Telluride potentially plaguing 4,27,407 SUVs manufactured between 2020 and 2024.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, improper assembly of the intermediate shaft and the right front driveshaft could cause the vehicle to roll away when engaged in park mode. To avoid such indecency, Kia recommends its users always use the parking brake when stationary until the recall fixes the problem in the plagued vehicles.
Kia found out about the issue back in April 2022 and upon testing over sixteen vehicles that rolled away in the park gear. Out of these, 6 models showed signs of damage to their intermediate shaft splines prompting Kia to issue the recall for all the Telluride SUVs between 2020 and 2024.
Kia will soon start reaching out to the owners of the Telluride SUV and prompt them to visit the nearest Kia service outlet. Kia technicians will install a software update for the electronic parking brake, enabling owners to engage the brake when in park mode and the engine shut off. Kia will also inspect the intermediate shaft and replace the part if it’s damaged. Kia has not found any injuries or accidents related to the potential issue with certain units of the Telluride.
