After creating too much buzz with its teasers, Kia has finally unveiled the EV3 electric crossover globally. Offered in Standard and GT-Line trims, it is the new entry-point to Kia’s electric portfolio. The EV3 electric crossover is Kia’s fourth born-EV following the EV9, EV6 and EV5, and it shares the same E-GMP modular platform with its larger siblings. It also carries over the family design language and sees a lot of interior technology and equipment trickling down from the more expensive models, such as a 12-inch heads-up display and a level 2 ADAS suite. In fact, the two-box silhouette of the EV3 looks very much like a scaled-down version of the flagship EV9 SUV. Dimensions-wise, the Kia EV3 measures 4,300 MM in length, 1,850 MM in width, and 1,560 MM in height along with a wheelbase of 2,680 MM, which is roughly the size of a Kia Seltos or Hyundai Creta.

It can be had with two battery pack options – a 58.3-kilowatt-hour and an 81.4-kilowatt-hour unit with a maximum driving range of up to 600 kilometres under the WLTP cycle. These battery packs can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in about 31 minutes, thanks to the EV3’s 400-Volt architecture. In both cases, a 200-horsepower, 283-Newton-metre electric motor spins the front wheels, which enables the EV3 to go from zero to 100 KMPH in 7.5 seconds. The top speed of the EV3 is 170 kilometres per hour and it also gets paddle shifters for multi-level regenerative braking. The EV3 also offers a vehicle-to-load feature, which is rare in the compact EV segment. The tech gives the freedom and flexibility to power external devices like laptops, coffee machines or hairdryers.

The EV3’s Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) pack includes Electric Dynamic Torque Vectoring Control (eDTVC) to ensure a smooth and stable delivery. The Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Highway Driving Assist, and Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist features are also provided for additional support. Another segment-first is Kia’s Remote Smart Parking Assist, which enables the EV3 to move in and out of tight parking spaces without the driver having to sit in the vehicle.

The EV3 will be introduced first in Korea in July 2024, followed by its European launch in the second half of the year. Kia also has plans to further expand the sales of EV3 into other regions, post its European entry.
