KGM Motors has launched the new Torres in the UK, which follows the brand’s fresh design philosophy, ‘Powered by Toughness’. Drawing inspiration from the striking landscapes of Torres del Paine National Park in Chile, this vehicle signifies a departure from the SUV maker’s traditional design while retaining its authentic SUV characteristics. If you are struggling to identify KGM, it is the South Korean carmaker that has been renamed from Ssangyong.
Available in two trim levels, the entry-level K30 and high-spec K40, Torres is set to expand its lineup with the AWD K40 and the pure-electric Torres EVX joining later this year. The design of Torres boasts a modern and sleek exterior, departing from the brand’s usual strong, practical lines. Its unique LED headlight design and sleek radiator grille give it a butch SUV stance.
Kevin Griffin, managing director of KGM UK, emphasises that Torres represents a new era for design, performance, and product, aligning with the brand’s unique heritage. With the SUV market evolving and diversifying, Torres fills a niche between semi-medium-sized and large SUVs, offering a distinct segment in the market.
Built on a versatile platform designed for multiple drive trains, Torres combines technology with essential functionality. The 1.5 turbo engine is said to offer best-in-class torque of 280Nm and a maximum power output of 163PS, improving acceleration and responsiveness under real-world driving conditions.
Inside, Torres offers a comfortable and contemporary space with a wide yet slim dashboard providing an uninterrupted view of the road. The interior features metal accents, ambient mood lighting, and leather upholstery. Furthermore, the twin-panoramic 12.3” digital display cluster and infotainment controls are said to provide seamless connectivity with standard features including Apple CarPlay, Google Android Auto, and Bluetooth connectivity.
The Torres also offers convenience with ample cabin and load space, setting an industry standard with a width of 1,890mm and a luggage capacity ranging from 703 to 1,662 litres. The vehicle also features a discreet and concealed space beneath the load floor, catering to various storage needs.
In terms of versatility, Torres boasts a towing capacity of up to 1.5 tonnes with a braked trailer and offers competitive approach and departure angles for safer driving in challenging or off-road situations. Additionally, the vehicle incorporates intelligent technology to enhance driver safety and assistance, positioning Torres as both safe and relaxing to drive.
