Jaguar TCS Racing has unveiled a sustainable transformation of its all-electric race car, the Jaguar I-Type 6, in honor of World Environment Day. Teaming up with Official Supplier AERO, the team has integrated groundbreaking material technology into its race cars.
In collaboration with AERO, Jaguar TCS Racing has incorporated AERO’s advanced urethane film technology into the black, white, and gold asymmetric livery of its race car. This technology, serving as an alternative to traditional wrap, boasts an environmentally-friendly manufacturing and application process. Remarkably, AERO’s solution eliminates the use of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) compounds, avoids emitting volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and produces zero carbon dioxide (CO2).
World Environment Day’s theme this year, #BeatPlasticPollution, aligns perfectly with AERO’s innovation. Unlike conventional paint, AERO’s materials don’t disintegrate into microplastics that harm oceans and rivers. Approximately 2.25 million tons of microplastics infiltrate the ocean annually due to traditional paint.
AERO’s clear coat layer introduces a higher level of toughness, eradicating micro abrasion and enhancing resistance against stone chips, environmental elements, erosion, chemicals, and reagents. The technology, rooted in patented and patent-pending chemistries, offers exceptional durability compared to other coatings.
Additionally, AERO’s construction allows for optimized weight and durability balance throughout a vehicle, with varying film thicknesses tailored for different wear levels.
James Barclay, Jaguar TCS Racing Team Principal, highlighted the significance of this innovation: “Our partnership with AERO showcases that performance and sustainability can coexist. AERO’s revolutionary product not only outperforms traditional wraps but also reduces our ecological footprint. Our race cars stand out on the grid with their distinctive livery, and we are proud that this choice contributes to curbing microplastic pollution on World Environment Day.”
Rossella Cardone, Director and Head of Sustainability Office at JLR, emphasized the alignment of this initiative with the company’s Reimagine strategy: “The partnership with AERO echoes our commitment to becoming carbon net zero by 2039. Innovations like AERO’s sustainable paint technology demonstrate our dedication to responsible practices.”
James E. McGuire Jr, CEO of AERO Sustainable Material Technology, underscored the broader impact: “AERO’s focus on sustainability resonates with the automotive industry’s shift toward a circular economy. Jaguar TCS Racing’s embrace of innovation, performance, and environmental consciousness aligns seamlessly with AERO’s mission.”
Jaguar TCS Racing’s collaboration with AERO demonstrates the power of innovation in driving change and promoting a sustainable future in motorsports.
