Kia Launches Solar-Powered Green Workshop

The company plans to open 150 more Green Workshops by 2026.

Kia India has taken significant steps towards sustainability by inaugurating its first Green Workshop in Rohtak, Haryana. The workshop, powered by solar panels, showcases Kia’s commitment to becoming a sustainable mobility solutions provider in India.

Solar-Powered Green Workshop

The newly opened Green Workshop utilises solar power to meet over 80% of its energy requirements while also providing an EV AC charging unit. This solar-powered facility aligns with Kia’s vision of green mobility and showcases its dedication to reducing its carbon footprint.

Efficient Water Management

Kia’s commitment to sustainability extends to efficient water usage. The workshop replicates Kia’s plant’s water recycling model, ensuring that almost 100% of the water used during the servicing process is recycled. Moreover, the workshop employs rainwater harvesting techniques to replenish groundwater levels.

Innovative Steam Wash Technology

In its pursuit of eco-friendliness, Kia has introduced innovative Steam Wash technology at the workshop. This technology saves a remarkable 95% of water usage compared to traditional car washing methods. It represents a significant step towards conserving water resources.

Future Sustainability Goals

Kia India has ambitious sustainability goals for the future. The company plans to open 150 more Green Workshops by 2026, aiming to extend the benefits of eco-friendly practices to tier 3 and 4 markets alongside metro cities and Tier 1 and 2 locations. This commitment underscores Kia India’s dedication to creating a better future for both its customers and communities.

Myung-sik Sohn, Chief Sales and Business Strategy Officer of Kia India, expressed the significance of this milestone. He noted that the Rohtak Green Workshop represents a substantial move towards making Kia India a prominent advocate for sustainable mobility. He said, “The commitment to establishing 150 Green Workshops by 2026 demonstrates Kia India’s leadership in merging eco-friendliness with premium driving experiences. Kia envisions a future where green practices and premium driving coexist harmoniously.”

Kia’s Ongoing Sustainability Initiatives

Kia India has actively embraced environmentally friendly initiatives since the commencement of its operations in India. The Anantapur manufacturing plant, for instance, recycles 100% of the water used in the manufacturing process. Additionally, Kia launched a paperless aftersales service in 2020, equipping its workforce with digital devices to enhance efficiency and reduce paper waste.

Community Initiatives to Combat Climate Change

Earlier this year, Kia India introduced two community initiatives: Develop Responsible Outlook for Plastic (DROP) and Uphaar. DROP addresses the pressing issue of plastic waste by preventing its accumulation in landfills and water bodies. Uphaar focuses on tree plantation to support marginalized agrarian communities and combat climate change.

Kia India’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond its products and services, reflecting its dedication to a greener and more responsible future.
