After witnessing the high-selling festive season this fiscal year, the Indian passenger vehicles industry has seen its best-ever November sales. Carmakers like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors and Mahindra saw double-digit growth in dispatches to dealers last month. The likes of Honda Cars, Skoda and MG Motor also witnessed strong sales momentum in November.
Maruti Suzuki reported a 3.39 per cent gain in total sales at 1,64,439 units last month as compared to 1,59,044 units sold in the same month last year. Its overall domestic passenger vehicle sales stood at 1,34,158 units last month as compared to 1,32,395 units in the year-ago period.
Hyundai Motor India registered total sales of 65,801 units in November including domestic sales of 49,451 units and exports of 16,350 units. “Hyundai Motor India’s SUV line-up continues to exhibit robust momentum, contributing over 60% to our overall sales,” said Tarun Garg, COO, Hyundai Motor India.
Mahindra and Mahindra reported a growth of 21% in overall sales at 70,576 units last month. In the utility vehicle segment, the company witnessed a growth of 32% at 39,981 as against 30,392 units sold in the year-ago period. Speaking about the continuing sales momentum, Veejay Nakra, President, Automotive Division, M&M Ltd., said, “We continue our growth trend, backed by strong demand for our SUV portfolio.”
Honda Cars marked a growth of 24% by selling a total of 11,891 units last month as compared to 8,730 units sold in the year-ago period. It also witnessed a significant growth of over 335% in export numbers, with 3,161 units being exported during the same period as compared to 726 units shipped in the year-ago period.
Skoda Auto India has sold 4,433 units in November as compared to the same period last year, witnessing a rise in sales of 102%. The company sold 48,933 units cumulatively from January to November this year, which is more than double of the 23,858 cars sold annually in 2021. “After being adjudged the safest car in India, the Kushaq leads our growth, along with our award-winning sedan, the Slavia. We have consistently maintained our growth momentum, and look forward to closing the year on a new high,” said Petr Šolc, Brand Director, Skoda Auto India.
MG Motor India sold 4,154 units in the month of November as compared to 4,079 units sold in the corresponding month a year ago, witnessing 1.8% growth. Electric vehicles contributed 30% to the overall monthly sales figure.
Tata Motors, however, witnessed a slight decline in overall sales figure, dropping 1% from 75,478 units in the year-ago period to 74,174 units last month. However, its overall EV sales grew by 7% to 4,761 units last month as compared to 4,451 units in the same period last year.
