India shows optimism towards AI with 58% confidence, shows survey

The anticipation and acceptance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) are on the rise in India, as revealed by the findings of the Bosch Tech Compass Survey 2024. With 58% of Indians considering AI as the most relevant technology for the future, up by 17 percentage points since 2023, the country demonstrates a growing optimism towards AI-driven interventions.

Advocating for generative AI

The survey highlights India’s alignment with the global perspective on the importance of generative AI, with 80% of Indian respondents acknowledging its relevance. This collective advocacy reflects a growing awareness of AI’s transformative capabilities beyond conventional applications.

Addressing climate change through technology

A staggering 81% of Indians believe in the pivotal role of technological advancements in combating climate change. This conviction underscores India’s commitment to leveraging AI and other emerging technologies to foster sustainable development and environmental stewardship.

Enhancing mobility safety

Safety emerges as a paramount concern in the integration of AI in mobility solutions, with 51% of Indian respondents prioritising enhanced safety measures. This emphasis reflects a growing reliance on AI-driven technologies to enhance transportation safety and efficiency across the nation.

Demanding transparency in AI

The survey reveals a strong demand for transparency in AI content, with 79% of Indian respondents advocating for mandatory labeling of AI-generated content. This call for transparency aims to enhance credibility, accuracy, and accountability in the dissemination of AI-driven information.

Embracing AI in daily life

Indians exhibit a remarkable willingness to integrate AI into various aspects of daily life, with 70% trusting AI chatbots for solutions and 62% open to the idea of AI-generated comedians. Moreover, 73% of respondents express a readiness to follow AI recommendations for career paths, indicating a growing acceptance of AI’s role in shaping personal and professional decisions.

Balancing hopes and concerns

While Indians anticipate positive outcomes from emerging technologies like 5G and AI, concerns persist regarding the potential negative impacts of humanoid and service robots. Notably, 56% of respondents emphasise the importance of education in responsibly implementing AI, reflecting a nuanced understanding of the complexities and ethical considerations associated with AI adoption.

Methodology overview

The Bosch Tech Compass Survey 2024 was conducted online in December 2023, polling individuals aged 18 and over across seven countries. Representative random samples were collected from Brazil, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, China, and India, encompassing various demographic parameters.
