Hyundai Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup car revealed ahead of N festival

Unveiled at the official practice round of the Hyundai N Festival, the new Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup car leads the charge in sustainable racing. “This unique electric racing car demonstrates our cutting-edge technology and passion for pushing the boundaries of what EVs can achieve on the racetrack.” – said, Till Wartenberg, Vice President and Head of N Brand & Motorsport.

The new Hyundai Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup car will compete in the N1 Class under open regulations, enabling the racing teams to choose from an array of racing-spec slick tyres without particular brand restrictions. Speaking of the performance updates, the Ioniq 5 N eN1 cup car boasts several updates to offer better performance around the circuit.

The biggest perceptible change is its exterior design, which boasts prominent N branding alongside some crucial modifications. Its redesigned body kit features low and wide fenders, front and rear lip spoilers for increased downforce, FRP hood, forged alloy wheels and polycarbonate windows. All these modifications help the Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup car to shed weight while boosting performance. The wider track of the cup car also enhances its handling.

As a race car should, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup car also packs a myriad of safety components like a roll cage, racing bucket seats, high-voltage shut-off device, fire extinguishers for electric fire and a modified charging port location.

Coming to its powertrain, the cup car shares its motors and battery with the Ioniq 5 N. Its dual electric motors — mounted at each axle — belt out 650PS of power drawing electricity from an 84kWh battery pack. Since the Ioniq 5 N and the Cup car both utilise an advanced 800V architecture, it enables fast charging of up to 350kW that is capable of juicing up its battery from 10-80% in under 18 minutes.

The new Hyundai Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup car will showcase its potential at the Hyundai N Festival. The upcoming season will serve as a trial run for electric racing while also providing an opportunity for race teams, drivers and marshals to learn the nuances of electric race cars. “With the eN1 class, we are poised to redefine the future of racing and pave the way for a new era of electrifying motorsport achievements.”, said Joon Park, Head of N Brand Management Group.
