Hyundai Motor Company has introduced its latest all-electric vehicle – Inster – at the 2024 Busan International Mobility Show. This new A-segment sub-compact EV features a distinctive design, class-leading driving range, versatility, and advanced technology. The Inster combines a futuristic and innovative design with a spacious interior, despite its compact SUV body. Boasting a driving range of up to 355 km, it offers fast charging and a sophisticated technology package that ensures safe and refined driving.
The Inster will first launch in Korea this summer, followed by Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific. An additional variant, the Inster Cross, featuring a more rugged design, will join the lineup in the future.
Exterior highlights:
The Inster’s bold exterior design builds on the legacy of the petrol-powered Casper, introduced in 2021, with an extended body and wheelbase for increased interior space and a rugged road presence. Positioned between traditional A-segment sub-compact city cars and larger B-segment compact models, it offers enhanced practicality and flexibility, making it ideal for city driving and parking. “With Inster, we’ve taken the small SUV image to a bold new place for the global audience,” said Simon Loasby, Senior Vice President and Head of the Hyundai Design Center. “Inster punches well above its weight with distinctive design and an interior that maximizes its potential in exciting, customer-centric ways. We’re redefining what it means to drive a sub-compact EV.”
The exterior features robust yet compact SUV styling, flush surfaces, strong fenders, a high-tech bumper, and a bold skid plate. LED daytime running lights, pixel-graphic turn signals, and various wheel options add to its unique appearance. A two-tone exterior with a contrasting black roof is also available.
Interior highlights:
Inside, the Inster offers a 10.25-inch digital cluster, a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with navigation, and a wireless charging dock. The interior design includes customizable upper door trim garnishes and walk-through access in the front row. All seats can be folded flat for increased flexibility, with additional options like a front bench seat and heated front seats and steering wheel. The second-row seats are split 50/50 and can slide and recline.
Colour options:
The Inster’s exterior color choices include Atlas White, Tomboy Khaki, and several new hues, such as Sienna Orange Metallic and Dusk Blue Matte. Interior trim options feature sustainable materials, including black high-gloss recycled paint and recycled PET from bottles.
Battery and performance:
Equipped with a 42 kWh battery, the Inster also offers a Long-Range 49 kWh battery option. Both models feature a single motor delivering 71.1 kW (97 PS) in the base variant and 84.5 kW (115 PS) in the Long-Range model. The Inster can charge from 10 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes using a 120 kW DC High-Power charging station and includes an 11 kW on-board charger as standard.
Safety highlights:
The Inster is packed with advanced safety and driver assistance features, including a Surround View Monitor, Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-spot View Monitor, and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist. Additional features include 64-color LED ambient lighting, a one-touch sunroof, and Hyundai Digital Key 2 Touch (NFC) accessibility.
